Why is my Wi-Fi slow? Ten-minute fixes
Before you blame your broadband provider, try these. Most slow Wi-Fi is fixable in a few minutes.

Restart the router properly
Switch it off at the wall, wait thirty seconds and turn it back on. It clears memory and often fixes slowdowns straight away.
Move it out of the cupboard
Routers hate being hidden behind TVs, in cupboards or on the floor. Put it high up, in the open, and as central in the house as you can.
Test with a cable
Plug a laptop straight into the router and run a speed test. If it’s fast on the cable but slow on Wi-Fi, the problem is coverage, not your broadband.
Thick walls? Use mesh
Cotswold stone walls are brilliant at blocking Wi-Fi. A mesh system with two or three units gives you strong signal in every room, unlike cheap plug-in extenders.
