Resetting the SMC (System Management Controller)
MacBook with Apple Silicon (M1, M2, M3)
Example: MacBook Air (M1), MacBook Pro (M2), etc.

Simply shut down your Mac, wait 10 seconds, and then turn it back on.
That’s all — power management resets automatically.
🔋 MacBook with Intel Chip (2017–2020)
MacBook with T2 Security Chip (usually 2018–2020 models)
Shut down your Mac.
Hold these three keys together for 7 seconds:
Control + Option (Alt) + Shift (right side)While holding those, also press and hold the Power button for another 7 seconds.
Release all keys, wait a few seconds, and press Power to turn on your Mac.
MacBook without T2 Chip
Shut down your Mac.
On the built-in keyboard, hold:
Shift (left) + Control + Option (Alt, left) + Power button
for 10 seconds.Release all keys, then press Power again to turn on your Mac.
🖥️ iMac, Mac mini, or Mac Pro (Intel)
Shut down your Mac.
Unplug the power cable.
Wait 15 seconds.
Plug it back in and wait 5 seconds.
Press the Power button to start.
